It's undeniable that it takes longer to charge an Electric Vehicle (EV) than it does to fill a petrol car with fuel. However, there is a different way to look at the often-raised objection and see another picture.
Ultra-fast Charging Technology:
EVs and charging stations are improving all the time. With the proliferation of fast and ultra-fast charging stations, an EV can be charged to 80% in around 30 minutes. Thus, while having a quick coffee or catching up on emails, your EV can be powered for the next journey!
Imagine if your petrol vehicle could be refuelled at home! With EVs, you can charge your vehicle overnight in the convenience of your garage, or a pavement-based charge point. This removes daily or weekly trips to the filling station, saving time in the long run.
Today’s EVs come with considerably enhanced ranges. Many models offer 200-300 miles or more on a single charge, which is more than enough for most daily commutes. So, frequent charging isn’t actually necessary for many drivers.
Whilst the actual act of charging may take longer than conventional refuelling, the overall time and convenience offered by EVs arguably tip the scales in their direction.
