Recent data from
Zapmap reveals that as of the end of May 2023, the UK has an impressive count of 43,626 electric vehicle (EV) charging points spread across 25,413 charging locations, equipping drivers with over 70,000 charging connectors.
This remarkable surge reflects a substantial 38% growth in the overall number of charging devices since May 2022. Notably, the Zapmap database welcomed an additional 1,628 EV charging devices in the past month alone, including a staggering 332 ultra-rapid charge points, signifying an extraordinary 99% surge compared to May 2022.
Prominent locations such as Stroud Park in Banbury (situated near J11 M40) by
InstaVolt have actively contributed to this expansion, witnessing a significant rise from 8 to 16, and now boasting an impressive 32 rapid chargers in recent months.
With the continual expansion of the rapid and ultra-rapid network, where a brief 10-15 minute charge from an ultra-rapid charge point can provide up to 100 miles of range, the disparity in convenience between refilling with petrol or diesel and potential EV charging delays is gradually diminishing.
According to the
Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of fully electric cars on UK roads has now surpassed 780,000.
